About Stimulus VoIP

How It All Started

Stimulus VoIP’s story begins in 1994, when a high school junior named Nathan Whittacre took his first tech job at Image Computers, a Henderson shop specializing in Novell servers and networking. When the shop closed a year later, Nathan put what he’d learned to work. In July 1995, at 17, he joined his father, Jarrard, and brother, Brett, to form Whittrio, Inc.

The company’s first headquarters was Brett’s garage. The brothers built computers and installed networks part-time while studying at UNLV, where Nathan later earned his master’s in computer science. Before long, Whittrio outgrew the garage, moved to downtown Henderson, and began providing internet service to local businesses.

Stimulus Technologies Is Born

By 2002, Nathan took over day-to-day operations at Whittrio and wanted a new name, one that better reflected the business he’d built. He landed on “stimulus,” a word he’d always liked because it describes something that creates energy in something else. The company was rebranded Stimulus Technologies, with a logo built around Tux, the Linux penguin, holding a lightning bolt, a nod to the Linux systems the company relied on to run its internet services.

Growth, New Location, and Expanded Services

With its new name came new opportunities. Stimulus began building out its own wireless network infrastructure, a project that required a move to a new facility at 6100 Mountain Vista St. in Henderson to house its growing data center.

At the same time, Stimulus began experimenting with a new service model: Managed IT Services. This let Stimulus take on the day-to-day work businesses needed to keep their computers, servers, and networks running smoothly, including antivirus protection, offsite backup, managed updates, security, and monitoring. Stimulus packaged these services together under the name Proactive Wellness.

In 2012, Stimulus rolled out Metro Ethernet high-speed internet, giving customers fiber-like speeds in areas where fiber wasn’t yet available, at a much lower price point. From day one, the network was engineered around high-priority traffic, especially VoIP, making it the only wireless network in Las Vegas built to support VoIP services at scale.

Where We Are Today

That early focus on voice quality never faded. It became the foundation of Stimulus VoIP.

Three decades after Nathan built his first computer system, that same commitment to reliable, well-engineered infrastructure now powers business and residential phone service across Nevada, Oregon, California, New Mexico, and Missouri. Stimulus VoIP is built by the same team that has run Stimulus Technologies’ networks from the ground up, not a reseller bolting phone service onto someone else’s pipes.

That matters when a dropped call means a missed sale or a family emergency goes unanswered. Because we control our own network, we can prioritize voice traffic the way we always have, keep support local and responsive, and offer pricing that doesn’t carry the overhead of a national call center. It’s the same hometown approach that took a family business out of a garage in Henderson and turned it into a company serving five states, just applied to the dial tone.
